Minsk Polo Marathon, 13/09/2015

Minsk Polo Marathon is a young event. The first race was held in September, 2013. It was devoted to birthday celebration of the capital city of Belarus – Minsk. This experience was successful, and it was decided to make this event a traditional one. In addition, on the City day, the second weekend of September, Minsk celebrates Sport and Health Festival, bringing both professionals and amateurs of running out to its central avenues and streets.
The organizer of Minsk Polo Marathon is Belarus Athletic Federation with the support of Volkswagen.
In 2015, for the first time Minsk Polo Marathon was held on such a large-scale format. On the 13th of September at 11 a.m. 19 000 of runners from all over Belarus, hundreds of runners from abroad, downtown streets, crowds of spectators and fans were enjoying Minsk Polo Marathon and Minsk City, a really wonderful place for sightseeing, resting, shopping and doing sports.
The race starts at Pobeditelej Avenue with lots of places of interest to see, then turns onto Independence Avenue – one of Europe’s longest city thoroughfares, and make a circle round the 40 m Obelisk of Victory, a memorial to the country’s war (1941-1945) dead. The route is a great opportunity to run near Minsk’s most stunning attractions as well as it is a unique possibility to see Minsk from an extraordinary side: when else could you warm-up in the middle of the central avenue? Not all residents of Minsk have ever seen their native city from such an unusual side.
Every runner is free to choose the distance he/she prefers: 5 km, 10 km, and 21 km.
Every participant gets a unique medal, depending on the distance.
